Inspired by Adjmi’s modern style dialogue and the salience of the figure of Marie Antoinette in the aftermath of the 2016 US Presidental Election, I wanted to dispense with period for this show, to emphasize that these characters live in a world not too far from our own. I used the celebrity trend of candy-colored hair and wigs to mirror the then trendy, now iconic Marie Antoinette hairstyle. Through strategic use of layers, I was able to echo the excess and luxury being stripped away as the story progresses.
