This new play-within-a-play centers on the backstage trials of the cast of the world’s most ridiculous high school production of King Lear. The bulk of the action takes place in the dressing room, and the script makes frequent and specific mention of numerous absurd costumes. My concept was to use unconventional materials, sourced primarily from dollar and hardware stores, to augment more traditional donated-looking pieces that might exist in a high school costume shop. The resulting zany look really helped sell the comic elements of the show.
